Ook George lijkt nu moeite te hebben met wat er van Star Wars geworden is. Ondanks dat hij blij is dat de fans tevreden zijn en de film z'n succes is, is dit nooit wat hij met de films zou hebben gedaan. Zijn ideeën en zelfs zijn betrokkenheid werden naar zijn mening totaal niet gewaardeerd, en daarom heeft hij met pijn in zijn hart ook de laatste banden met Star Wars moeten verbreken.
Als hij jonger was geweest had hij het misschien zelf nog gedaan. Maar hij weet niet hoe zijn gezondheid over 10 jaar is, en hij heeft ook nog andere plannen. Daarom was de keus om Star Wars over te dragen de 'juiste'. Maar of George echt zo blij is met hoe alles verlopen is? Waarschijnlijk niet. In het bovenstaande interview noemt hij Disney "White slavers who take things, and.." om de zin vervolgens niet af te maken. Later bood hij hier zijn excuses voor aan:
"I want to clarify my interview on the Charlie Rose Show. It was for the Kennedy Center Honors and conducted prior to the premiere of the film. I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologize.
I have been working with Disney for 40 years and chose them as the custodians of Star Wars because of my great respect for the company and Bob Iger’s leadership. Disney is doing an incredible job of taking care of and expanding the franchise. I rarely go out with statements to clarify my feelings but I feel it is important to make it clear that I am thrilled that Disney has the franchise and is moving it in such exciting directions in film, television and the parks. Most of all I’m blown away with the record breaking blockbuster success of the new movie and am very proud of JJ and Kathy."
