Als je ons regelmatig volgt (of andere bronnen gericht op Star Wars nieuws) dan kan het je onmogelijk ontgaan zijn dat vorig jaar de originele regisseurs van Solo: A Star Wars Story, Chris Miller en Phil Lord, ontslagen werden en werden vervangen door Ron Howard.
In die periode ging het hardnekkige gerucht dat de reden voor ontslag meer was dan alleen 'creatieve verschillen', zoals de officiële bekendmaking liet weten. Bronnen lieten weten dat het er hard aan toe ging tussen Lucasfilm bazin Kathleen Kennedy en de twee regisseurs. Het werd echter nooit bekend wat nou precies die 'creatieve verschillen' waren. Tot gisteren, toen Kennedy er over sprak met Entertainment Weekly.
“I think these guys are hilarious, but they come from a background of animation and sketch comedy. And when you are making these movies you can do that and there’s plenty of room for improvisation, we do that all the time.But it has to be inside of a highly structured process or you can’t get the work done and you can’t move the armies of people to anticipate and have things ready. So, it literally came down to process. Just getting it done.There comes a point where there’s only so much you can do and then you have to take a different course and that’s where we ended up.So, it’s not like there’s anything I can really add to it because the last thing I want to do is…[reopen a wound].Yeah, I just don’t want to do that. These are really great guys and you know, nobody wanted this to happen. It was just one of those unfortunate things.”
Het is duidelijk dat Kennedy niet het achterste van de tong laat zien in het interview, zeker omdat we er van uit mogen gaan dat zij en de twee regisseurs elkaar helemaal niet meer zo geweldig vinden. Dit blijkt onder andere uit het feit dat ze geen 'oude wonden' wilt openen. Wel is er nu dus meer duidelijk over de precieze reden van de scheiding.
